Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of closing a new chapter in its history with the possible arrival of a renowned coach. According to reports from L'Equipe, Luis Enrique is close to signing with the French team after ruling out the option of Julian Nagelsmann.

The Asturian coach was close to joining Chelsea in May, but economic negotiations failed, and the London team opted to hire Mauricio Pochettino. For Luis Enrique, this would be his first experience at a club after his successful spell with Barcelona.

The Gijón-born coach had a challenging period in charge of the Spanish National Team, where he couldn't win titles but managed to lead La Roja to decisive stages in Euro 2020 and the UEFA Nations League 2020/21. At 53 years old, the former Barcelona coach feels ready to return to the elite, and PSG represents a challenge of his caliber.

For Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club's president, one of the priorities this summer is to sign a top-level coach with enough accolades and experience to manage a complex dressing room. Christophe Galtier's tenure ended with a disappointing season where they could only secure the Ligue 1 title with difficulties, while the failure in Europe was resounding once again.

They need reinforcements

Luis Enrique knows what it takes to win the Champions League with Barcelona, and PSG's board believes that the Spanish coach is the right person to steer the Qatari sporting project in the right direction. Al-Khelaifi is well aware that Luis Enrique is a coach with a complicated character, and the first thing he will ask for is to strengthen the squad in all positions.
