On Wednesday, the 17th matchday of Ligue 1 was played. At the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain faced Metz, one of the weakest teams in the tournament. And there, the logical thing happened: the hosts proved to be superior to their rivals and got an important 3-1 victory that allowed them to stay as the leaders of the league table with 40 points, 5 more than Nice.
Vitinha scored the opener 4 minutes into the second half and then Kylian Mbappé did his job and netted twice to help his team secure the victory. Those two goals also allowed him to increase his lead as Ligue 1's top scorer with an impressive statistic: he has scored 18 goals in the tournament, 10 more than AS Monaco striker Ben Yedder, who is the second highest scorer. And not only that: he also has more goals than games played, something almost impossible to achieve.
However, all this was secondary, as near the end of the match 'Kiki' received one of the best news of his professional career. It was 46 minutes into the second half and Paris Saint-Germain were leading 3-1 when coach Luis Enrique made an unexpected decision: he called up Ethan Mbappé, Kylian's brother, and brought him on to replace Manuel Ugarte.
Ethan is just 16 years old and one of the most promising youngsters in the squad. Unlike his brother, he is not a striker, but a midfielder. He has been training with PSG's first team for several months and had even been on the bench in some matches, but until Wednesday he had never had the opportunity to play in an official match. Although it was only a few minutes, Kylian and Ethan fulfilled their dream of playing together.
Ligue 1 will now have a few weeks off, until after Christmas and New Year. But before the league resumes, Paris Saint-Germain will have the opportunity to compete for a title: on January 3, they will face Toulouse FC in the French Super Cup. Mbappé's team are the champions of the last Ligue 1, while their rivals won the Coupe de France.
