Alejandro Garnacho is one of the players who grew the most this year in Europe. At only 19 years old, he earned a place in Manchester United's starting eleven this season, being a priority for coach Erik Ten Hag even over other stars like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
His goals, dribbling and assists also earned him a place in the Argentina national team, with which he made his debut this summer, during a friendly match against Australia in China. Playing for the South American team was a decision Alejandro had to make, as he was born in Madrid, Spain, and lived there all his life, before joining Manchester United. But his mother is Argentinian and so he preferred to play for the world champions.
However, he may now regret his decision. Garnacho played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United for a few months. Both have a similar style of play and it is evident that the youngster idolizes him and tries to imitate him. The problem is that in the Argentine national team there is Lionel Messi, CR7's great rival for the last two decades.
In an interview, another Argentine player, Leandro Paredes, spoke about Garnacho's situation and said: "We joked about it with him. He is very shy and does not answer. Poor guy, we drove him crazy. We also talked to him about what the group is, somehow we try to make them feel part of it and feel comfortable. Although in this case he got very nervous and couldn't talk".
Paredes then clarified that it is not the intention of the Argentine players to make Alejandro Garnacho feel uncomfortable, adding: "As he said, I think he is his idol, he always followed him a lot and he plays quite similar. So it's normal, nothing happens. Obviously, when he comes to the national team he has to change a little bit because there is ours."
