The future of Barcelona's central defender, Samuel Umtiti, has taken an unexpected turn after an outstanding season at Lecce, where he played 25 matches. His notable performance has generated interest from teams that previously seemed unlikely for the 29-year-old French player, who now has interesting options on the table.
While Inter Milan and Olympique Lyon have expressed their interest in him, the latest development is an offer from a team in Saudi Arabia. According to the newspaper Sport, despite having a valid contract with Barcelona, Umtiti does not rule out the possibility of accepting a lucrative offer from the Middle East.
This situation would be excellent news for Barcelona as it would allow them to free themselves from one of the highest salaries on the squad, while also giving the player the opportunity to sign a much more lucrative contract due to the substantial sums involved in Saudi Arabia.
The remaining years of Umtiti's contract with Barcelona represent a significant financial burden for the club, so a move to a country that assumes the entirety of his contract would be a relief for the finances of the team presided over by Joan Laporta.
The French defender, known for his elegance and strength in defense, has proven to be a valuable asset on the field. However, injuries and lack of continuity have affected his performance in recent years. Nevertheless, his outstanding season on loan at Lecce has sparked interest from several clubs, which could mark a new chapter in his career.
