Lionel Messi received a special recognition in his last match with Paris Saint-Germain, acknowledging his time at the Parisian club where he spent two seasons and helped the team win the Ligue 1 title, although they fell short in the Champions League.
The owners of PSG presented Messi with a special award as a tribute to his time with the team, following the announcement of his departure after two years with the Parisians. The award, made of gold, features the number Messi wore on his jersey, along with his name and the club's crest.
Since Messi has previously expressed that his time in France was not very happy, he decided not to keep that memento and chose to donate it to Neymar's institute, knowing that it would not bring back good memories and could be put to better use.
It was revealed this past Friday that the award was auctioned off at an event organized by Neymar himself and managed to raise a sum of 172 thousand USD.
The money raised from the auction will be used to finance projects created by the Projeto Neymar Jr. Institute, whose main goal is to promote the social inclusion of young people aged 7 to 18, providing them with innovative and complementary educational environments. This initiative, in which the Brazilian star is involved, is particularly focused on reducing school dropout rates.
