Pep Guardiola is one of the best coaches in the world. He was the creator of one of the teams most remembered by soccer fans, that Barcelona that won the Champions League twice between 2009 and 2011 with stars such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Xavi Hernandez. And then he continued his successful career at Bayern Munich and now at Manchester City, where he again built a team that will be remembered for decades to come.

The Citizens had become one of the strongest clubs in England before Pep's arrival, and had even been Premier League champions a couple of times in those years, but with him everything changed. He managed to give the team his own style and turn them into the undisputed leaders of this era in England, winning 5 of the last 6 leagues and the Champions League title for the first time.

But everything comes to an end at some point and, in Guardiola's case, the end may be very near. He has a contract with Manchester City until June 30, 2025 and nobody knows what will happen after that date. No doubt the club's chiefs will try to convince him to renew for a longer period, but he has other objectives.

This week, during a press conference, the Spanish manager revealed one of his dreams for the future of his professional career: "A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship," he began. And then he joked: "I don't know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club."

Still a long time to go

Then Pep Guardiola was asked if that was a short or long term goal and he clarified: "I don't know when that would be if that is five, 10, 15 years from now but I would like to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup". These last words are perhaps a relief for Manchester City fans, who can look forward to the manager staying for several more seasons.
